A laghu Maha Mrityunjaya pooja is the shorter version of the Maha Mrityunjaya pooja. In the laghu Maha Mrityunjaya pooja, the mantra that is recited 1,25,000 times is small. Thus it takes less time to complete the pooja or less pundits to perform the ritual. The Maha Mrityunjaya jaap (mantra) recited for a laghu Maha Mrityunjaya pooja is, ‘oṁ hrauṁ jūṁ saḥ’. This mantra entails great power to overcome obstacles such as ill health and accidents, and help increase life expectancy.

How is Laghu Maha Mrityunjaya Pooja performed?
It takes 3 days to complete a laghu Maha Mrityunjaya pooja, with 5 pundits performing the ritual. Lord Shiv and Lord Surya are worshipped. A short mantra is recited 1,25,000 times during the course of the pooja. It is also important that all the people performing the puja go without food, until the pooja is completed. Alternately fruits can be consumed. Apart from this, 108 clay pindis are made, worshipped and immersed in water every single day. The pindis denote Lord Shiva, and proves very effective in order to please the Lord.
The time required to complete the pooja may differ, depending upon the number of pundits performing the pooja. For Eg., it would take 3 days to complete both the pooja if 5 pundits perform the laghu Maha Mrityunjaya pooja, and 11 pandits perform the complete Maha Mrityunjaya pooja. However, if the pundits who perform the pooja are less in number, it might take more days to complete the same. Depending upon the number of pundits or the number of days required to complete the pooja, the expenses incurred differ.
